The Longsword is a heavy long sword hence the name "Longsword". The Longsword was often used by a knight because of how a strong hit could easily strike someone down. This sword wasn't very useful for thieves or assasin's being that they hid in the shadows and a heavy weapon would weigh them down. These huge swords have many uses in battle and in medical treatment being that the force could easily amputate a limb.
Length
The average Long sword would be in total 3 feet 3 inches to 4 feet 3 inches. The blade takes up most room with 2 feet 11 inches to 3 feet 7 inches. I have a example on the table so you can see how huge it is. If we were in the middle ages the sword would weigh 4 pounds. The long sword model is on the bigger side with the blade being the largest common longsword
History
Back in the middle ages it was hard to get the exact date, time, and place where something was made but I do know that the sword was very popular from the late 1200's and the 1300's. This sword was more known for its force and weight rather than sharpness. This is more reasons it was made for knights and guards because a sharp light sword wouldn't bother armor but the weight could crush bones underneath the armor making the sword useful for wars and battles. There where also German schools that taught soon-to-be knights.
Longswords
As you can see the Long sword is a very interesting and has many great qualities. Now that we are more advanced we actually have technology to duplicate limbs and do so much more than just take a sword to it. We can blast cities away with tanks instead of using armies. The technology is insane compared to back then.
